Mémoire
Le Festival des CabanesEmerging from afar, the ‘cabane’ stands perpendicular to Faverges’ cycling route. It is a reminder of the mountains, diverting from the endless straight line of the road. Mémoire starts as a path, on which visitors advance over the vast marsh, facing the mountains of the Massif des Bauges. The higher level of the cycle route is extended perpendicularly, taking the visitor to a new intermitent line above the fields. It encourages the engagement with the surroundings. This sudden change in the direction brings the visitor towards the landscape and away from the roads linear infrastructural path.
A modular structure reduces the speed and naturally directs the steps towards the view. Overlooking the marsh, this ludic walk allows the passerby to contemplate the views with deeper awareness. At the end of the path, a ladder challenges the visitors to the lower level. Now, in direct contact with the marsh, one has physically become an element of the territory. The structure is covered by a half-wall of cork that hides the visitors eyes, while leaving the tall grass enter through its open bottom.
Without sight, the other senses are sharpened; and suddenly, the territory acquires a grainy texture—the smell of the morning dew, or the sound of the wind blowing on the tall grass. It turns into a different and unique atmosphere aimed to forge an intimate memory of the Marais de Giez.
