Formative Spaces: Educational Role of Architecture
We believe that the built environment is an active agent in human formation, capable of promoting encounters, encouraging communication between people, and inspiring their daily lives. As such, our proposal for the new Hortênsias headquarters of UERGS is guided by the creation of inviting spaces, with welcoming atmospheres, full of natural light, and environmentally comfortable for different forms of conviviality. The building of the new Hortênsias headquarters seeks to relate to the entire community of São Chico – students, teachers and citizens – expanding its field of action (and transformation) to the entire city. It is thought as a tool of and for citizenship.
Things that Surround Us: Place, Pre-existence and Innovation.
Within the context of an Educating City, the construction of a new building necessarily involves a close dialogue between the built form, the surrounding landscape, and pre-existing local traditions. It is through this conciliatory path that we believe it is possible to bring innovation to the historical-cultural landscape of the city. Our proposal, thus bulds from the unique qualities of the place; It is inserted in the territory in a respectful and stimulating way, guaranteeing that the ancestral knowledge of different peoples – expressed in forms, landscapes and ways of building – become present in the daily life of the entire population.
